Cookie Policy

This policy describes the cookie files used on the Varnox Ale House Journal website. It explains what cookies are, which categories this site uses, and how you can control them in your browser.

Policy version Effective 4 October 2026 Applies to varnox.delivery

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. It lets the site recognize your browser on a later request, which is useful for things like remembering a preference or measuring which pages are read. Cookies do not run programs on your device, and they cannot see files you have kept elsewhere.

On an editorial site about the Miller's Ale House experience — our menu field notes, game-day writing, and neighborhood dining pieces — cookies help the pages load as you expect and give us a rough idea of what readers find useful. Nothing in them identifies you by name from our side.

Necessary cookies

Some cookies are required for the site to work as intended. These may cover basic session handling and security functions. Necessary cookies are set because the site cannot operate reliably without them, and they are not used to build a profile of your interests.

Session handling

A short-lived cookie keeps your browser tied to the page you requested, so a form does not forget what you typed between two clicks and a page does not reload into an empty state.

Security checks

These cookies help block automated abuse of the site. They are set for protection only and are not used to record which pages you read or what you searched for.

If blocked

Turning off necessary cookies may break parts of the site — pages may not load cleanly and forms may fail to submit. Readers who want to keep using the journal should leave these on.

Analytics cookies

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are read most often and where readers leave. The data is used in aggregate to improve the site. If analytics cookies are used, they are described on this page and can be blocked without losing access to the content.

Applies to

Every page of the journal — menu field notes, game-day guides, neighborhood dining notes, and the editorial standards we write to.

Aggregate Which pages readers open most often Viewed in totals, never per reader
Referrals How readers arrive at the journal Category only, no personal detail
Exit Where readers leave an article Helps us see where a piece stops working

Blocking analytics cookies does not prevent you from reading any page of the journal. You will still see the same articles, guides, and notes — the only difference is that the pages we improve will be based on less information.

Editor's note

We keep the journal readable for everyone and only measure what helps us do that.

Third-party cookies

Some features, such as embedded media or external fonts, may cause cookies to be set by the provider of that feature. These cookies are controlled by the third party's own policy, not by us. We list the categories of providers used rather than claiming control over their cookies.

If a page embeds a clip or loads a hosted type set, the provider may record that your browser requested it. We do not receive a named list of those requests. Where the provider offers its own control, that setting lives in the provider's own dashboard or documentation, not in ours.

Categories used

  • Embedded media providers Set when a video or audio player is loaded from a hosted service.
  • Font and asset hosts Set when a page loads its typeface or icon set from a content network.
  • Measurement services Set only if a hosted analytics tool is running on the page at that time.

How to control cookies

All major browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies through their settings. Blocking necessary cookies can break parts of the site. Blocking analytics cookies does not prevent you from reading any page.

Step one

Find the cookie panel

In Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge, open Settings and look under Privacy or Site Data. The wording differs, but the panel is always there.

Step two

Review stored files

Most browsers list every cookie saved under varnox.delivery. You can delete them all, or remove just the ones you do not want to keep.

Step three

Block and re-test

Set the block, then reload a page of the journal. If something looks broken, that is usually a necessary cookie doing its job — re-enable it.
